Buffalo Hair Maori Tribes and New Zealand Gov. Settle Land Disp

Feature Story:

Maori Tribes and New Zealand Gov. Settle Land Disp

Like other Indigenous people of the globe, the Maori have been struggling to regain their traditional tribal lands, forests and fisheries lost during the 18th century European invasion. It’s been a long journey for these traditional Indigenous people and now the New Zealand Government and the Tribes came to terms.

Prime Minister Helen Clark told a tearful crowd, many dressed in tribal regalia;

“It is a historic journey we are on.  We came into politics to address injustice and seek reconciliation. Thank you for walking that road with us on this historic day. ”

And with that speech over a hundred years of struggle came to an end. The Treelord Agreement was ratified and 430,000 acres of prime real-estate was returned to the Maori People, a far cry from the apology with no compensation the Australian Government gave the Aborigines last year I might add.

In question was the Treaty of Waitagi signed in 1840 securing tracts of land for the Maori people. Like the treaties signed in the Americas by Natives and Europeans they were not honoured, until now. Truly, this is a landmark decision the world over should take into consideration as corporations rape indigenous people world wide in their quest for natural resources and the corporate bottom line.

The New Zealand government has shown that conquering people can right the wrongs of generations past if they only try. The dignity of the Maori people has been honoured and now they can move forward as a proud people and become economically solvent as a nation within a nation. Once the poorest people in the nation and struggling with all the social issues that plague the Natives of the America such as health care, education, unemployment and equality, the Maori now have what was rightfully theirs.

With regard to the youth of the Maori people, Maori Chief Tumu te Heu Heu said;

“This is our legacy to them”

Quite a contrast to Burma’s ethnic cleansing of tribal people and the wholesale disregard of treaties in the United States of America and Canada eh. Fact is, it’s a contrast to the treatment of Indigenous people in the world as a whole. Why is it so hard to honour treaties and allow tribal people to retain their culture anyway? Money is not everything.

BUFFALOHAIR KA Cirque Du Soleil

The other day I was in Las Vegas Nevada. I was invited to dinner and watch a circus act of some kind. Not much of a fan of circuses but a fan of free food I enjoined my friends on a culinary adventure. Our first stop was at the Rio Hotel and Casino. Being a fan of seafood this was going to be quite a treat for me since I’m a regular pigzilla when it comes to shell fish and other squiggly things from the depths of the ocean.

The Rio is known for its world famous seafood buffet and let me tell you, all the rumors are true. Not only did they have seafood, they had a killer Sushi bar and cuisine from around the world as well. There was not a bad apple in sight at this place. Fact is every food item was beyond excellent and to die for. I did my share of knocking down the stack of crab legs they had as well as all them mussels, clams and oysters. The seafood display alone was befitting of a king but it was the pigzilla dynasty that devoured all the creatures from the sea, moi. The buffet totally rocked and I ate myself into shameless oblivion and excess. Wish I took my Tupperware though. I gave the joint a 5 star seafood rating and plan to enjoin in glutinous fare in the future I might add.

Then since the show was not for a few hours we went off to my new hangout Jimmy Buffets Margarita Ville on the strip. I had the usual, a margarita or two. I like the place since it has the air of some dive in a banana republic a fitting place for an ole Krusty news man like me. We watched the people cruise the crowded streets of Vegas to kill some time before the next phase of my Vegas experience. I never saw so many heels and short skirts in my life. Holay, it was like watching a fashion show with the dos and dont all on one runway. Like the Star Wars Bar, there was every conceivable style and manner of dressing or almost dressing one could imagine. Well after all, this is Vegas.

Feeling full and lazy plus a little looped we went off tothe MGM Grand for the show. I figured if the circus act was to boring I could just node off during the show. Boy was I in for the surprise of my life eh. From the moment we found our seats there was an air of excitement in the crowd. The fact the stage was belching massive flames should have been an indicator that this circus act was going to be a bit different. KA, Cirque Du Soleil was the name of the show and what a show it was. This was no circus act I ever saw before. This was an acrobatic act beyond imagination and I found myself on the edge of my seat for the whole show.

Breath taking is an understatement since the acts were totally unbelievable and truly an art form unto itself. The special effects were fantastic but the coordinated physical fetes by these talented performers were stupendous and magnificent beyond words. I was in awe throughout the performance.

Vegas sure has changed since I was young. The Vegas I remembered and loved was the Vegas where the headliners were Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Elvis the pelvis. I used to get this giant margarita at the Thunderbird Casino, play Barboot at the Plaza and party with associates at the Dunes and Crazy Horse Saloon. I remember watching B.B. King perform as an opening act to Elvis. Them were the good ole days but it is nice to know that Vegas has evolved into quite an entertainment oasis.

In any event, if you want to see a show that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, check out KA  Cirque Du Soleil. It’s well worth the wait in line for tickets if they are not already sold out.

Buffalo Hair What’s the deal anyway?

What’s the deal anyway?

With the disclosure that speculators utilizing the Enron Loophole were responsible for the rise of fuel costs, something the Saudis said back in November by the way, why all the double talk about fuel efficiency from both presidential candidates? Sure we should be more frugal with fuel and all but the reality is there was no shortage of fuel. It was only greed that buckled nations to their knees.

Oil execs as well as the Saudis both said fuel prices should have only been between 60 and 70 bucks a barrel. You’d think it would be a no brainer to simply dump this proverbial Enron Loophole since it was an affront to economies world wide. With a myriad of oil and gas discoveries you’d think King George would stop his ranting about drilling in nature reserves and off shore, but no.

Wells are being drilled and capped along the US/Canadian border while drilling permits are not being utilized in areas already known to have that black gold. Again I say it’s all about extorting and bullying to get their greedy hands on Alaskan soil to drill. On the streets it’s called “putting the squeeze” to force their will on others.

Just goes to show you that there are many people in high places who are gleaning a clear profit from this Enron Loophole and they are not about to upset the ox cart. Oh lets have a congressional hearing on this loophole, paleeze. They already know it’s a bogus shelter that allows speculators to do their nasty deeds out of the eyes of federal regulators. So it’s a national crisis and all but they truly do not give a flying crappola about the citizens they are supposed to serve. They are only lining their own pockets.

It was a sad day in politics when it was leaked out the Obama was not going to address the NAFTA debacle and the selling of national sovereignty. Fact is he assured corporate interests in Canada he would not harm this corporate deal. Like a stacked hand in poker, we have no choices in this presidential election. They are all basically the same as far as courting the corporate dollar. We the people have been given jokers, literally and corporations will win no matter who is made the main talking head or president as it were. I venture to state the war in Iraq was nothing more than a corporate takeover of a nation. They could not get their greedy hands on Iraqi oil and Saddam was not about to let corporations rule his roost.

The media was fast to quell the tell all stories from a former Bush aid and the mindless public simply forgot it would appear. They forgot the War was all a hoax and people died for nothing, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens let along out kids. It was a shame from the gate but Corporatism marched onward.

This cancer has spread around the world as leader after leader sided with Bush making them a party to the “Great Lie” of the 21st century. And in its wake their nations face the chaos the US has been dealing with. Corporations over people have become the axiom of world leaders. The all mighty dollar has become the center piece of rulers who were entrusted with the wellbeing of their citizens. Now they jump through corporate hoops to keep the money flowing into their pockets. And of course, the people loose their benefits, take a cut in pay and go broke. Ask a transportation worker in France or an airline pilot in the US.

Viet Nam made it criminal for speculators to artificially raise the price of rice after Cyclone Naris. They made it be known to speculators of the dire consequences if they manipulated the price of rice. So why can’t the US do the same with these criminal oil speculators? Yup, it’s all about the money.

Sadly, this is all a part of the time of change when greed rules the planet and it’s a sign. Ma Earth has her agenda as well. Not a square inch of Earth will be safe from Ma Earths rage I might add. Her cleansing will be complete and to quote a passage in the Christian Bible, “The Meek shall inherit the Earth” In my visions it was said, “A rich man will die of starvation in his sleep while using a sack of pinto beans as a pillow”

Well, being a Krusty ole Native guy has its advantages eh. As far as my people are concerned we’ve already been placed in bondage. We have nothing else for them to steal, except our lives. My aunt told me that someone would have to tell us we are in a depression since we would not know the difference. Natives of the America’s are the secret third world and someday soon we will not be alone.

Buffalohair Burma, Than Shwe 1, Cyclone Survivors 0

OK boys and girls here is the score card humanity is sure to hide in shame from. Dictator Than Shwe of Burma has successfully fended off any attempts by the globe to offer emergency assistance to all survivors of Cyclone Naris. Only under the watchful eye of the Junta did any aid get distributed at all. In essence we’ve become a party to Than Shwe’s exercise in eugenics and the systematic death of hundreds of thousands of select victims. Whether it was a bullet or simply disease or starvation, death was the reward for the innocent people of the delta region of Burma, simple as that. Wonder if we get a plaque or something.

The distraction of this cyclone has offered the population of Burma more arrests and imprisonments of opposition leaders and members. The Karen and other tribal people have been relentlessly hunted down and killed while the world looked on. So nothing has changed, except for the worst for these innocent people, nothing.

The bogus Constitutional Referendum passed with flying colors, red from the blood of those who opposed it. Currently the Burmese government is paying social calls to villagers who voted against this insanely corrupt document. Imprisonment, torture and death await those who chose to exercise their right to vote NO. Grave diggers who were trying to bury the dead have been arrested in the Bogaly area where tens of thousands of rotting corpses decorate this region.

Known as “The Group that Buries the Dead” they have diligently took it upon themselves to assist their fellow Burmese people during this time of crises. Clearly they wanted to thwart the spread of disease and give dignity to those who have fallen. Of course this put a wrinkle to Than Shwe’s plan of genocide by nature. But should this be a surprise? I don’t think so since many aid workers have been detained or expelled from the country thus far. Their crime was helping the people ear marked for death by this criminal leader.

And here is the American congress and the First Lady condemning Than Shwe for his atrocities. If they were sincerely fired up they would have condemned Chevron for the continuation of their Burma operations. I find it odd that all business ties were severed with Burma except America’s Chevron Oil though. But alas, it’s all about the money. Corporate cancer has spread around the world now and all politics is concerned about is the corporate bottom line. To bad so sad and the beat goes on.

Photos of Tornado and Flooding

Mississippi Floodwaters in Iowa
June 17, 2008 10:28 AM
The rising Mississippi River has broken high-water records up and down the Iowa and Illinois shore, cresting as high as 12 feet above flood stage in some places. Estimates place the cost of the damage at over $1 billion dollars, and concerns are rising over crop damage, toxic remnants that were washed into neighborhoods, future mosquito invasions, and maintaining supplies of clean drinking water. Communities further downstream are bracing for possible flooding as well. (16 photos total)

Bees, Trucks and Plows

When you look at the big picture it is all too apparent trucks are to commerce like bees are to plants. Hurriedly trucks move from one dock to another spreading the pollen of industry and commerce. Each truck, no matter how small, is moving product to the consumer directly or via warehouses only to be redistributed by other trucks.

Happy Fathers Day

On Native America Calling
Happy Fathers Day…Son - Parents say one of their greatest moments as a parent
is when their child is born. For some, the next greatest moment is when
they see their child become a parent . It’s your turn Dad, in the spirit of Father’s Day,
to share just what it meant for you to see your son become a father.
