2007 PREDICTIONS, PLEASE... asks Carole

A New Year is upon us!!!

And while I am not one to don party hats and use the occasion to get blottoed, I do appreciate the passing of the old and ringing in the new, yada yada yada...

So, what better excuse to come up with a few predictions ourselves?

Okay, let's see. First. I predict 2007 will be a boffo year for Native WOMEN in film and music. What a talented bunch is out there, just waiting for their moment in the sun. Evidence?

~Tonantzin Carmelo. She's gorgeous. She can act. I think Hollywood will notice, and soon!

~Arigon Starr. Premiered her play "Red Road" to rave reviews (quite an alliteration) in 06. But this is just the beginning for this multi-talented performer, playwright, singer, artist.

~Shirley Cheechoo. Because she is a tremendously talented screenwriter and director, that's why. Whatcha got coming up, Shirley? I can't wait!

~Q'Orianka Kilcher. She's gorgeous. She can act. And she's still a kid who has her head screwed on straight. What a great antidote to the Lindsay Lohan's of the acting world.

~Misty Upham. Okay, I'm biased. But Misty, OUR Misty, is a formidable young lady who is preparing and training herself to become a screenwriter in addition to her acting roles. Just wait and see. She's gonna do it.

And there are many others...but I'm going to hold off. Want to see what you think about the coming year. YOUR predictions--the good, the bad--even the ugly...

 

"Imprint" Redefines Native Women in Film 

Imprint blows away what we think of when we see "Native" movies. Suspense; drama--and, I maintain, a uniquely feminist sensibility. Tontantzin took the challenge, and did a tremendous acting job.
