by Maria Finitzo

Some consider stem cell research the Holy Grail of regenerative
medicine. Others view the idea as morally wrong. But what would you
do if your child became paralyzed from the waist down and you had
access to the research that might allow them to walk again? Follow
respected neurologist Dr. Jack Kessler into the unknown territory of
stem cell research.

3. Online Shorts Festival Highlight: THE METAMORPHOSIS

THE METAMORPHOSIS (10:01)
by Ari Mark

It's hard to say what came first -- the pain, the pounding or the
tiny growth on the back of Stan Leiber's head. But when Stan wakes up
one morning to find that the growth has matured into a yarmulke, he
decides to leave his home and face a buried past. Stan journeys
through a scenic countryside, isolated and afraid. When the pounding
sound draws Stan to a synagogue, he finds himself confronted with a
shared history. Told through the eyes of a Holocaust survivor, the
story of Stan Leiber reminds us that we are all part of something
bigger, no matter how much it may hurt.

Vote for the Independent Lens Online Shorts Audience Award -- through
February 29.

4. FATWORLD: Online Game Explores America's Obesity Crisis

A new Independent Lens Web-Exclusive launched today!

A downloadable video game about eating, obesity and the politics of
nutrition, FATWORLD reconstructs a playful, small-scale society where
players own and operate a restaurant, purchase groceries, create and
share recipes, and make nutritional decisions over the life of a
character.

As creators from independent game studio Persuasive Games describe
it: "The game's goal is not to tell people what to eat or how to
exercise, but to demonstrate the complex, interwoven relationships
between nutrition and factors like budgets, the physical world,
subsidies and regulations."

Be prepared to take the challenge: Fit or fat? Live or die? You decide.
